This webpage is a public place for me to store the things I'm working on. This things fall into two main categories:
My notes for teaching philosophy in secondary school. (These are in two sections - the Google doc class notes are on one page, but my plan is to copy each lesson onto its own webpage so it's a bit more straightforward to access.)
My investigations and thoughts about the philosophy of education
I've put all this in public just in case they my might be of use or interest to other teachers, but also so that people can give me feedback on what I'm doing. Everything on here is a work-in-progress and so will constantly evolve.
The name ta mathemata comes from the ancient Greek τα μαθήματα which literally means 'the things we learn', and from where we get the word 'mathematics'.
My name is Bernard Andrews. I have been a teacher for over twenty years. A philosophy graduate, I initially trained as an RE teacher. I then spent seven years working in PRUs and with excluded students or those in danger of being excluded.
I completed PhD which was a Wittgenstein influenced investigation of moral value in teaching (especially students with SEMHD).
I now teach Philosophy at a school in Valencia, Spain.
